CAPTIONS: Estimated Total Recorded Minutes*

Under 10 minutes? No problem! But we will need to charge for a minimum of 10 minutes to allow for the setup costs of captioning. A rough estimate is fine. Our final invoice will detail the exact length (in minutes and seconds) that we transcribe.

Closed or Open Captions?

Closed: £4.00/min of recording (most common)

Open: £7.00/min of recording

CLOSED CAPTIONS (CC) can be turned on/off, are a separate file (e.g. .srt,.vtt), and get uploaded with the video platform. Style and placement are determined by the video platform.

OPEN CAPTIONS are burnt onto the video file. They are permanent and always on. This is the best option when there is no access to the video platform, or for complete control over caption style and placement.

WCAG 2.0-y: Arial font with black dropshadow edge. Background: Plain. Window: Black (50% opacity)

Netflix-y: Arial font. Background & Window: Plain.

You Tube-y: Roboto font. Background: Black (75% opacity), Window: Black (0% opacity)

Undecided? We suggest WCAG 2.0-y as this is the most compliant option. NOTE: All open captions will be bottom-centred and justified (unless they obscure important visual features of the video). They will be in medium sans serif, proportionally spaced white fonts, sized to fit 42 characters across the caption window.
