Transcript Format

Strict Verbatim: Includes all elements of spoken English, such as “ums,” “ers,” repetitions, and active listening. However, due to the subjectivity, emotional content of how words are spoken (e.g., laughing, crying, shouting), will not be included.

Are there more than two people talking?

The more people that are talking, the more time it takes for the transcriptionist to produce a quality transcript. Hence higher rates for more than two speakers.

Are the recordings clear?

Poor quality recordings require more time for the transcriptionist to produce a quality transcript, hence the higher rates. Some passages may remain undecipherable despite our best efforts. These will be timestamped so you can easily review them. Examples of issues maybe – background noise, people talking at the same time, microphones being too far away to be effective.

Is the speech clear?

For a variety of reasons, speakers can be hard to understand. The way in which some speakers pronounce, enunciate, and articulate words can slow down typing speeds and thus increase the time needed by us to complete some recordings (see:HERE). Examples include strong regional accents, English as a second language speakers, or simply just speaking fast and lacking articulation can mean the typist has to slow the audio down, and replay passages to try and decipher what is being said. The rate that we charge needs to reflect any additional time we are spending on a project. Not all speakers are easy to understand.
